Understanding Pakistani Fabrics: Silk, Organza, Tissue & Velvet

The fabric is where a Pakistani outfit begins — it decides how a piece drapes, how it catches the light and where it belongs. Here's a plain-language guide to the fabrics you'll see across our collections.

Raw silk

Structured, with a soft natural sheen, raw silk holds embroidery beautifully and photographs richly. It's a workhorse of formal and bridal wear — substantial without being stiff.

Organza

Sheer, crisp and light, organza gives volume and an ethereal, floaty quality. It's lovely for dupattas, jackets and layered silhouettes, and lets delicate hand-work shine against the light.

Tissue

Woven with a metallic shimmer, tissue reads instantly festive and regal. It's a favourite for pishwas, ghararas and bridal pieces where you want that lit-from-within glow.

Velvet

Plush, warm and deeply saturated, velvet is winter's fabric. It carries gold and jewel-toned embellishment with drama, making it ideal for cold-weather weddings and evening party wear.

Caring for hand-embellished fabrics

Whatever the fabric, embellished couture is best dry-cleaned only. Store pieces flat or well-padded, keep them away from perfume and moisture, and handle the beadwork, dabka and sequins gently. Treated well, they last for years.
